License Renewal Requirements for North Carolina

There are two licenses required in North Carolina. An Alarm License and an Electrical License

  • The electrical license categories of: limited, intermediate, unlimited and special restricted single family dwelling -require 8 hours of continuing education every two years.  Four (4) hours can be online and four (4) hours must be in classroom
  • The electrical license categories of special restricted fire alarm/low voltage (SP-FA/LV), special restricted elevator (SP-EL), special restricted plumbing and heating (SP-PH), special restricted ground water pump (SP-WP), special restricted electric sign (SP-ES) and special restricted swimming pool (SP-SP) - require 4 hours of continuing education every two years.  Two (2) hours can be online and two (2) must be in classroom.

  • The alarm license requires 6 hours of continuing education every two years.  Three (3) hours can be online and three (3) hours must be in classroom.
